Construction of 16 new homes to boost the city's supply of affordable housing is about to get underway.

Mae'r gwaith o adeiladu 16 o gartrefi newydd i gynyddu cyflenwad y ddinas o dai fforddiadwy ar fin dechrau.

Cardiff Council has appointed Encon Construction to develop the site of the former ATC cadet centre on Caldicot Road in Caerau. The site will consist of six one-bedroom flats, seven two-bedroom houses, two three-bedroom houses and one four-bedroom house.

The scheme is part of the Council's housing development programme, which aims to deliver more than 1,000 new council homes in the city by 2022, and a total of 2,000 new homes in the coming years. All 16 homes will be available for rent from the Council.

Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Cllr Lynda Thorne, said: "Caldicot Road will provide a good mix of new council homes helping to increase the supply of good quality, affordable housing in the city.

"The houses will be built to high standards of sustainability and energy efficiency in an area where we need more social housing. There are around 7,700 people on the housing waiting list at the moment, with many waiting for larger family homes, so it's good to have a range of properties that meet the needs of our communities."

Mae'r gwaith o adeiladu 16 o gartrefi newydd i gynyddu cyflenwad y ddinas o dai fforddiadwy ar fin dechrau.

Mae Cyngor Caerdydd wedi penodi Encon Construction i ddatblygu safle hen ganolfan cadetiaid ATC ar Caldicot Road yng Nghaerau. Bydd y safle'n cynnwys chwe fflat un ystafell wely, saith tŷ dwy ystafell wely, dau dŷ tair ystafell wely ac un tŷ pedair ystafell wely.

Mae'r cynllun yn rhan o raglen datblygu tai'r Cyngor, sydd â'r nod o adeiladu mwy na 1,000 o gartrefi cyngor newydd yn y ddinas erbyn 2022, a chyfanswm o 2,000 o gartrefi newydd yn y blynyddoedd i ddod. Bydd pob un o'r 16 cartref ar gael i'w rhentu oddi wrth y Cyngor.

Dywedodd yr Aelod Cabinet dros Dai a Chymunedau, y Cynghorydd Lynda Thorne:"Bydd Caldicot Road yn darparu cymysgedd da o gartrefi cyngor newydd gan helpu i gynyddu'r cyflenwad o dai fforddiadwy o ansawdd da yn y ddinas.

"Bydd y tai'n cael eu hadeiladu i safonau uchel o gynaliadwyedd ac effeithlonrwydd ynni mewn ardal lle mae angen mwy o dai cymdeithasol arnom. Mae tua 7,700 o bobl ar y rhestr aros am dai ar hyn o bryd, gyda llawer yn aros am gartrefi teuluol mwy, felly mae'n dda cael amrywiaeth o eiddo sy'n bodloni anghenion ein cymunedau."
